Shift Sleeping
Let’s talk about shift sleeping!
A few weeks ago I hosted Cove Lactation’s first free Breastfeeding Prep Workshop. The moms-to-be who attended came with some excellent questions about milk supply, combo feeding, nipple confusion, bottle feeding, and navigating sleep while breastfeeding.
One of the topics I had a lot of questions about was to do with navigating sleep with a breastfeeding baby. Specifically, the moms-to-be who attended the workshop had some great questions around how early to start “shift sleeping”, and explored strategies to support milk supply and prevent nipple confusion if giving a bottle overnight.
Shift sleeping is one of my favorite strategies to suggest for families when:
Parents are struggling with sleep deprivation
Baby only wants to sleep while being held
Parents want to avoid co-sleeping
Both parents are willing/able to take shifts overnight
Personally I struggled so much with sleep deprivation in the newborn days, I wish I'd known about strategies like this before I'd given birth!
If you missed the workshop, no problem - I put together a free shift sleeping mini-guide just for you 🤗
