Preventing small breastfeeding problems from becoming big ones

Five star review for Cove Lactation Breastfeeding Consultations in Cayman for help with mastitis

Not sure if you need a lactation consultation?

Here’s what you should know 👇🏼

If it were up to me, I’d love to see clients in the first week after birth, just to check if everything is going well. In reality, I end up seeing most of my clients one or two months after birth - when things have already gone wrong.

I was so grateful this mama saw me soon as I did. We planned to just check that everything was going okay - and ended up identifying she had full-blown mastitis, which could have caused major problems if not resolved quickly. It was sheer luck that we’d had an appointment scheduled for that day - if we hadn’t, we’d have missed it.

The thing with breastfeeding problems is that they tend to spiral. A small issue like a latch that isn’t quite right is often easy to adjust. It becomes a bigger issue once an unresolved shallow latch means ongoing inefficient feeding leads to issues like mastitis, low milk supply, and slow weight gain.

That’s why I always encourage families to get help sooner rather than later. You don’t have to wait until things get worse 💛
